What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the site to remember your preferences, recognise your device, and provide a more personalised experience. Vowly Event also uses similar technologies such as local storage, session storage, and pixel tags, which are collectively referred to as "cookies" in this policy.
Categories of cookies we use
We classify our cookies into four categories based on their purpose. Strictly necessary cookies are always active because they are essential for the Service to function. The other categories require your explicit consent under UK PECR and the EU ePrivacy Directive.
- Strictly necessary — your cookie choice, RSVP management on invitation pages, and automated-abuse protection. These cannot be switched off
- Functional — the live-chat support widget (consent required)
- Analytics — anonymised usage statistics that help us improve the platform (consent required)
- Marketing — advertising and re-targeting. We use none of these today; the category exists so that we could never enable one without asking you first
Specific cookies in use
Below is the complete list of what Vowly Event stores on your device, verified against the live site. The duration indicates how long each item persists after it is set.
- vowly_consent (cookie, strictly necessary, 12 months) — records your cookie choices so we do not ask again
- _ga, _ga_* (cookies, analytics, 13 months) — Google Analytics 4 with IP truncation. Only set after you consent
- _GRECAPTCHA (cookie) and _grecaptcha (local storage) — set by Google reCAPTCHA on invitation pages to block automated abuse of RSVP forms. Strictly necessary; see Third-party services below
- vowly_rsvp_device (local storage, strictly necessary) — a random token created only when you submit an RSVP, so you can edit or cancel it later without an account
- vowly_rsvp_manage_*, vowly_k_* (local storage, strictly necessary) — remember your RSVP so you are not asked for the event PIN again on the same device
- vowly_gifts_*, vowly_guest_photos_* (local storage, strictly necessary) — remember the gifts you reserved and the photos you uploaded, so you can manage them without an account
- crisp-client/* (cookies and local storage, functional) — live-chat session, so a reply reaches you. Loaded only if you enable Functional cookies or open the chat yourself
Third-party cookies
Three third parties can receive data from this website. There are no others: this site loads no advertising, social or tracking pixels of any kind, and all fonts are served from our own servers.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd) — usage statistics with IP truncation. Loads only after you consent, and never on invitation pages
- Google reCAPTCHA / Firebase App Check (Google Ireland Ltd) — verifies that RSVP and photo-upload requests come from a real browser. Runs on invitation pages as a security measure, without which those forms would be open to automated abuse
- Crisp (Crisp IM SARL, data hosted in the EU) — live chat support. Loads only with Functional consent, or when you open the chat yourself
Managing your preferences
You have full control over non-essential cookies. We display a consent banner on your first visit where you can accept, reject, or customise your cookie preferences. You can change your choices at any time via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer.
- Cookie preferences — the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer of every page reopens the panel and your choice takes effect immediately
- Browser controls — most browsers can block or delete cookies and local storage from their settings
- Global Privacy Control / Do Not Track — if your browser sends either signal we disable analytics automatically, without you having to touch the banner
- Withdrawing consent — turning analytics off deletes the _ga cookies from this device straight away
What happens if you reject cookies?
Rejecting analytics and functional cookies has no effect on your ability to use the platform: you can browse every page, open an invitation and reply to it exactly as before. You will not see the live chat until you open it yourself, and your visit will not appear in our usage statistics. Strictly necessary items cannot be rejected, because without them we could not remember your cookie choice or let you edit an RSVP you already sent.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in technology, regulation, or our service. The "Effective" date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted in our consent banner upon your next visit.
Manage your preferences
You can change your cookie consent choices at any time through our preference centre or by writing to our data protection team.
